Branching Out

What I like about this photo is the pattern, and the contrast between the dark branch and white snow/sky. It was a cloudy snowy winter day in Saline, Michigan, a few years back. This isn’t really an “abstract” image, but I think it has abstract qualities to it. It reminds me of the old images we used to use in the early web design days as “repeating background images” where the sides would line up to let you fill a screen with a small image, lined up beside itself over and over.

I feel confident the white balance was off… but when editing, when I brightened it, I lost the distinction between snow and sky, and it also lost the feel I remember – when it’s cloudy and snowing it’s more grey than white.
