One more glass ball photo from a recent trip north… one danger they don’t tell you about ahead of time when using these is how well they work as magnifying lenses. For example, you don’t want to hold one in your hand on a sunny day. Most of the time, in a shot like this […]
Glass Ball
Thanks to a random photo I saw on Facebook, I had to jump over to Amazon and buy myself a crystal ball to point my camera through from time to time. :-) It’s a fun tool to have in the photography back pack. Every now and then I find a new way to use it, and it’s been fun.
Superior Eye on You

Sometimes a photo just asks to be displayed differently. In this case, for some reason, it looks better to me turned on its side. Made me think of an eyeball – the lake watching for something. The glass balls are fun to play with in various landscape situations… though it’s difficult to be creative with […]

Fall Ball Self Portrait

Overall not the greatest photo… but I liked how the trees curve in the reflection. Plus, it felt like I needed to use one of a handful of these I took for something as it turns out that sticking a glass ball on dry leaves is a great way to start a fire. Teal Marble

On a recent trip to the U.P. I’d had dinner in Ishpeming with my two older sons, and didn’t have time to get back to Marquette to catch the sunset at Presque Isle. So I stopped at Teal Lake to see if I could find any shots there. The lakeshore on the Neguanee side is […]
Wet Ball

Sometimes I just have too much fun playing with my balls. Well, after the one was so much fun, I had to get more, and now I’m waiting anxiously for my next chance to get to a thawed out Lake Superior shoreline so I can put my balls in the water and take pictures of […]
Bubble Self Portrait

On my quest to find interesting ways to use my crystal ball (since it won’t work for seeing my future) I’ve tried to do a “self portrait” of sorts. That’s me in the center of the ball. I would have used a non-telephoto lens so I could get closer, but the waves made that a […]
Rock Bubble

On my latest trip back north to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, my son was patient enough to spend a good chunk of outdoors time while dad lugged his camera gear along. This photo was one of my favorite taken on this trip. I’ve been playing with ways to use the glass ball that would be a […]

Ice Dock

The map doesn’t quite show the spot, I was on the land-end of the wall, since the gate was closed. Though even had the gate been open I wouldn’t have gone out on the wall, as the ice was extremely slick and covered it entirely. While I’ve still yet to really explore the creative possibilities […]

Swimming In Your Future

The closest I get to fortune telling. 🙂 While wandering the shoreline of Presque Isle way up in Marquette, Michigan, I was at first going for an image focusing on the stones on the beach. But then tried to catch the swimmers in the background instead. They’re kind of hard to make out because of […]
