Crosswinds Marsh is an interesting place… aside from the fact that it’s literally across the road from a giant landfill. There’s a lot of wooden paths like this over the water to walk on, joining several islands. Depending on the time of year, some interesting views. Sometimes it can be really crowded, which makes it […]
Landscape
This probably covers the majority of what I like to take pictures of… what’s interesting is that there are so many different ways to see the same view. Different people get different things out of seeing something, and small changes in camera angle or lens choice or lighting can make for entirely different resulting images of the same place.
Bridge to Nowhere

Not the best ice/snow scenery when I was there this time, but I rarely am driving through when the fog is this thick. It made it a bit more interesting to drive over it when I was done hanging out with my camera. River Stag

Taken at Bond Falls in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. One of the better large water fall spots you can stop at – very accessible in the summer, and not too hard to get to in the winter. A lot of great scenes to find here. I was torn on this particular image… I get these kinds […]
Ice Curtain

The shore of Lake Superior in Marquette is probably one of the most often visited spots for me with my camera… this was taken between the city and the Presque Isle park, where there are piles and piles of rocks intended to keep the forces of the waves at bay. Winding Down

The older I get, the harder it is to get to some of these spots… there’d been some rain, so the ground was covered with really wet leaves and I almost broke a few things getting down and then back up again from this spot at the Tinker Creek waterfall. It was also difficult to […]
Ghost Rocks

My favorite use of long exposure isn’t waterfalls, but waves on a regular beach. I love what it does for waves washing over rocks or logs, etc. The smokey effect is pretty awesome. The trick is that it makes a huge difference exactly when the shot is taken. It’s probably a good situation to use […]
Beach Cones

I hadn’t really found anything I was thrilled about shooting when I was there, but back at the computer I found this one strangely cheerful to look at, so kept it in the mix. I love the blue, and for some reason the “dot” shapes of the cones make it more interesting than it otherwise […]

Calming Fall

Bond Falls is an impressive sight. It always strikes me, looking at a picture like this, how the long exposure creates a feeling of smooth and calm, but when you’re actually THERE at the waterfall, the raw power is overwhelming. There’s something to be said for a faster exposure in capturing the energy in the […]
Lookout Fall

This walkway was just put in not that long ago and already looks like it’s been there decades… Lake Superior weather is not easy to, well, weather. This is the lighthouse off of Presque Isle in Upper Michigan’s Marquette, seen from one of the beaches on the road to get to the island. I haven’t […]
