Edge of Presque Isle

Trees, stone, and waves… the holy trinity of Lake Superior. If you haven’t been to Marquette, Michigan, you really should visit. And when you do, be sure to spend some time exploring Presque Isle. There are trails along the outside edge that provide some amazing views. (Just be really careful not to fall off!) On the East side, there’s a few spots where you can stand right on the edge of a very tall cliff, so the view across the small inlets are from very high up.

I think what I love about scenes like this is that it makes me think about stone vs. water… water seems weaker because it’s not solid, but given time it will wear away anything it beats against (especially with the waves Lake Superior can produce.) Stone seems so strong, yet faced with the persistence of the waves, it all eventually gives way.
