Feathered Sentry

Evening at the Kensington Metropark in Michigan is a great time to take photos of herons and other birds - there's a small island that many nest on, and come back to, as the evening goes by. For the first few years I'd gone there I couldn't get any really good photos, as there's a significant distance from the shore to the island. However, I finally had a long enough lens to get some shots. This is one of my favorite results so far. (It looks really great printed on cardboard - I'd done a print to cover up a space under an aquarium at home.)

I wasn't sure it would end up printing nicely, as the ISO is a lot higher than I like to have it. But the sun sets behind that island and the light was fairly low by the time I was taking this shot.
