Frozen Falls

Of all the waterfalls in the U.P. I’ve gone to shoot, Munising Falls has been the hardest for me to time right. It seems like between the seasons, the weather and lighting is never quite what I want it to be when I’m able to stop. When I took this photo, the falls were almost entirely frozen up on the outside, and this is zoomed in on one areas where you could see the water still flowing behind the ice.

I needed a higher ISO setting than I’d have liked, to catch the moving water in a more frozen feel to match the ice, as it was overcast. Times like this I wonder about hauling a flash around with me to have more options, but that’s something I haven’t really started playing around with yet.
