The typical waterfall shot is best done on a cloudy day with a tripod and a long exposure. But I often have fun doing a fast exposure shot for a much different effect. Instead of smooth spaghetti water you get a sharper more frozen look. Especially good on a day when the sun is bright in the sky and you don’t have your tripod. I particularly liked the frozen effect with the chunks of ice in the shot to compliment it.
This was taken at Bond Falls on the West end of the U.P. – if you haven’t been out that way, you should definitely go. And then do yourself a favor and stop at Char’s Cafe near Bruce Crossing. I’ve always had lunch there when I go, it’s my favorite roadside diner with no frills and huge servings. (And awesome pie!)
