Presque Isle Sunset

I wasn’t really sure I liked the end result with this photo, but ironically when I printed it on canvas I found I liked it much better. On the computer screen, I think I feel critical because of the amount of editing and noise involved… but the texture of the canvas somehow smooths that out. The end result is that it looks like a painting when printed in that format.

Sometimes there’s surprises, too. I hadn’t actually noticed them until I had printed it large on canvas, but there’s a couple sitting on the rocks watching the sunset. For some reason I really like the subtle detail, strictly because it’s not so obvious.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that back-lighting is bad, to take photos with the sun behind you to avoid this. I’ve found that I often like the back-lit effect though. I feel lite it adds a different dimension to the colors.
