Stoned Flowers

I find statues both intriguing and creepy as heck. Something about them both looking ancient and somehow ready to come alive. However, if you’re going to photograph human figures, it’s definitely easiest to do it with ones that don’t move a lot. Shadow Bloom

Pretty sure I’ve posted a photo of this flower before, but the framing here is different. In this case it was the lighting and shadow that drew me in for this setup, with the contrast and vibrance. I’ve yet to figure out what makes a flower photo interesting to me… I see many (and take many) that don’t interest me… but sometimes they just jump out at me.

Pretty Sting

This was a case where I was really happy for having Photoshop… I’d taken a couple of different captures of this flower, but I didn’t like a major part of the two best ones. So, I combined them, removing the offending bits. One didn’t have the dark rain drops on the petals (on the right) […]

Make Like a Tree

I wrestled with a couple of versions of this shot – I’d taken several shots, framing it differently each time. At first I wasn’t going to use this one, because I thought the blue at the corners was distracting, but in a super scientific Facebook poll it seemed that most folks thought it helped frame […]

Ducks in a Row

For most of the time I was near these little cuties they were walking around in the mud, which wasn’t very photogenic. I kept trying to catch three of them at a time, but they weren’t very cooperative. It was a good chance to try out my new longer lens though, which meant not having […]

Time to Go

I’m not sure what the artist was looking to capture with this, but the girl looks terrified to me. And mom looks ticked off. Maybe she was out playing too late? I’ll have to look for a description next time I’m there, maybe there’s a label somewhere.  Most statues I’ve photographed have been in cemeteries, […]

Watching and Waiting

I’d taken my new toy (Tamron 150-600mm F/5-6.3 lens) to the local botanical garden, hoping for some birds or other wildlife… but apparently the mild winter weather was still too much for them and it was pretty quite. I ended up roaming around a few corners I hadn’t explored before, and found a neat statue […]

Stoned

I was excited to find out Toledo had a Botanical Garden, though to be honest I’d been spoiled for it having been to the one in Madison, Wisconsin with my folks. Toledo’s doesn’t have nearly as much in it, though there’s a nice river and bridge and some neat statues. I’m not sure what it […]
