I’ve taken a lot of shots of the bridge connecting the two parts of Michigan, but always while taking a stop from travelling. As a result, I’ve not yet had the ideal weather for a shot that I’m truly happy with. This particular time I’d stopped, I’d decided I wanted to try to find something […]
Waves
Flying Rat Convention

After finding something on Facebook marketplace that I wanted to buy, I ended up meeting the seller (who lived past Cleveland) at Lakeview Park. I brought my camera along using the trip as an excuse to shoot some shots. It didn’t end up being quite as big a photo day as I’d hoped… the weather […]
Winter Waving

What looks colder than water splashing around ice and snow? Lake Superior can be a frigid thing. I’ve always been drawn to the opposite of the “spaghetti” style of shooting water (used often on waterfalls)… opposite in that by using a faster shutter speed, the water gets broken into particles and creates all kinds of […]
Future Sand

Download: Future_Sand_Asgard_Photography_IMG_8013.jpg I had to wade through about a foot of water to get to this location… there’s a rest stop off the highway that has a nice shoreline stretch to wander, but then there’s a small river letting out into the lake that you have to cross to get over to this little cove. In […]
Change is Coming

Download: Change_is_Coming_Asgard_Photography_IMG_7435.jpg If a rainbow symbolizes a promise of something positive, I’m not sure what the clouds behind it are saying… maybe “psych”? That bank of clouds was actually moving toward shore at a pretty decent clip… I ended up not staying long past this shot, because I had to walk about two miles back to […]
Pieces of Winter

DOWNLOAD: Pieces_of_Winter_Asgard_Photography_IMG_7454.jpg Looking South from the edge of Black Rocks in Marquette’s Presque Isle (the frozen edge of Lake Superior)… I typically prefer horizontally framed shots, but a vertical framing allowed for more of the “pancake ice” in the foreground. While the camera is at eye level here, I’m standing about 30 feet up from the […]

Beach Glass

One more glass ball photo from a recent trip north… one danger they don’t tell you about ahead of time when using these is how well they work as magnifying lenses. For example, you don’t want to hold one in your hand on a sunny day. Most of the time, in a shot like this […]
Every Day Lake Superior

For some reason, I find it amusing that the lighthouse seems like an afterthought here. 🙂 When I was at the lake this afternoon, it wasn’t doing anything like it’s normal dramatic self, but in a lot of ways it just felt like an “average typical day” kind of thing, which made it feel worth […]
Presque Isle Shoreline

Everyone does long exposure when shooting waterfalls, but I think I like the looks of long exposure on water better with waves. Every time I shoot along Lake Superior’s shoreline, I usually try at least a few of this style of shot.
